.....San Diego Trail Tramps is a gay/bi men's hiking group dedicated to monthly hikes in San Diego County and beyond. Founded in the Fall of 1998, the group has hosted over 1,000 members on hikes in the past 15 years, with an average attendance of 10-25 hikers on each hike. Double entendres not withstanding, the group's name comes from a New Zealand slang term, "tramp" or "tramping", which roughly means "to hike".
.....With such a wide variety of beautiful terrain to cover, San Diego County is now a hiker's paradise. From coastline beaches to inland valleys, from the mountains to the deserts that lie beyond, there are hiking adventures waiting for everyone. For those interested in learning more about what San Diego County has to offer for hiking, we highly recommend the book "Afoot and Afield in San Diego County" by Jerry Schad.
.....Depending on the month of the year, our group meets the 3rd Sunday at 8:45 a.m. to carpool to the hiking area for a full day's outing. The carpool site is centrally located in the Hillcrest area of San Diego, with plenty of free parking. We recommend wearing hiking boots and clothing appropriate to the weather. Day packs are useful for carrying your own water, sports drinks, snacks, sunscreen, etc. (Ideally, every hiker should be prepared with the Ten Essentials when venturing out into the wilderness.) Click on our Calendar page for more details of each month's scheduled hike. Email us with questions or to get on our email mailing list for reminders of upcoming hikes and other events such as BBQ's, pool parties, etc.: SanDiegoTrailTramps @ Gmail DOT com
